In our first ever, we the team at Investorwhiz is excited to announce collaboration with the Amrut Deshmukh who is better known as the "Booklet guy" on Make India Read mission. Let us tell you what exactly "make India Read" is and how it all started with a simple thought and a simpler remark!
The Effective Narration & Crafty Idea
While waiting to watch a movie that was yet to start, Amrut Deshmukh, a qualified CA, narrated "7 habits of effective people" to his friend. The friend was impressed and casually mentioned that Amrut should summarise books for those who do not get time to read them. The idea stuck and Amrut started a whatsapp group comprising of 15 friends where he would share book summaries. He also requested them to share the summaries with their contacts. Within 2 weeks, Amrut had 1000 requests and this was the beginning of "Make India Read" mission. Within a month this number touched 50k!
About 5 months into this initiative, based on a survey taken Amrut realised that only 10% of his subscribers were actually reading the summaries. Not amongst those who give up, Amrut devised an ingenious idea- recording audio summary. This worked like magic as people were more inclined to listen than read.
The Avid Reader & A Social Entrepreneur
Amrut reads at least one bestseller in a week and summarises the same for his readers and listeners. For his own love of reading, he prefers non-fiction which he says inspires to implement the learnings but to accommodate his wide base of audience he has begun to read fiction, romantic novels, basically everything under the sun. He buys books, borrows them and yes, now that people recognise his initiative, they also send their books to be reviewed and summarised by Amrut. Though he clarifies that only those books are picked by him that he feels are worth the attention and hardwork.
Amrut feels that books can add a lot of value to a person's thinking, knowledge and perspective. According to him, three books that every youngster should read include- Ignited Minds by APJ Abdul Kalam, Who moved my Cheese by Dr. Spencer Johnson and Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus by John Gray. His personal favourite is Start with Why by Simon Sinek, Who moved my Cheese and all books by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Ask him about his future plans and he tells us that he wants Booklet to be biggest Social enterprise of India. He wants to introduce the true entrepreneurs who are more concerned about adding value to society with money just being the by product.
The App- Booklet
With the mission to cultivate reading habit amongst youth of India, this initiative is now available as an app- booklet on Google Play Store. It is a wonderful way of accessing summaries and listening to or reading them as and when one wants. It neatly stores the book summaries, is easy to use and seamless in its navigation. Amrut has recently started giving summaries in Hindi as well in the the same app. Soon he want to make the kids of India read through his new app "Booklet Junior"
